I had trouble with modelling the camera as the protagonist so I went into my backyard and took a lot of shots of what was illuminated by my motion sensor yard light. I had enough footage that when I went into editing and I got inspiration for the direction I wanted to, I was able to make that idea come together.
There was a surprising amount of trial and error with this video, between adjusting the frame to my phones distance from the class container. I tried colouring the water with black India ink to give better contrast but it ended up making my filming set up completely visible to the camera which ruined the illusion the the cameras perspective of being the glass.
I knew what I wanted for this video but it took a couple tries to get right.
First I put my phone on a phone dash mount but at that position too much of my
car dash was in frame and not enough of the trees for my liking. For my next
attempt I tied my phone to the top of my steering wheel with a hair elastic.
That got the video centered more on the windshield and less of the dash and got
me the centered view I wanted, almost like my perspective of the road. I live
near Henderson park and I love the trees that surround the roads around the park
and so that is the focus of the video. I took a much longer video of my drive
then cropped it down to my favorite minute and I hadn't planned on it but I also
like the perspective of the camera as the wheel turns so I made sure to include
a little of that.
